The 5th BFF-SPSB Children Science Congress 2017 held

The 5th ‘BFF-SPSP Children Science Congress 2017’ was held at United International University Campus Dhaka on December 29 and 30, 2017 organized jointly by Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB).

Presided over by BFF Treasurer and former chief scientist of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Dr Rezaur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury formally inaugurated the congress as the chief guest.  Professor of the University of California Berkeley Dr. Saif Salauddin, Vice Chancellor of UIU Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman and Vice president of SPSB Mr. Munir Hasan also spoke at the opening.

Two-day-long event was ended with the participation of more than 400 students. 28 research works of 56 students in three categories as scientific research paper, scientific posters and Science projects have been awarded in this year’s Congress.

More than 3,000 students from all over the country submitted Concept Papers to participate in Congress this year. Among them 400 students were selected in the main event. In addition to the awarding of the best 28 research works, three best practices in every subject including Paper of the Congress, Poster of the Congress and Project of the Congress are also awarded.

Dinajpur Government College's ASM Anas Ferdous, AHM Mahin and Phulbari Government College's Tanjid Azam Utsab won the best paper award by inventing methods for making polymers, fuel, fertilizers, pesticides etc. with banana stem. Didarul Islam of Kushtia Zilla School received the best project award for work on the process of water purification using organic material (Poly Electrolyte) in small bag like T bag. Md. Majedul Islam of Surai Munshipara High School of Rangpur and Mohammad Nazir Hossain of Marnaya High School were awarded Poster of the Congress award for observing the effect of organic fertilizer in potato.

Prior to the closing ceremony, participating students interacted and discussed with the prominent scientists on the field of science education, research opportunities, science books and useful resources, and in the field of scientific research. The five-point proposal for joint Congress was passed by all the votes. In order to implement these proposals, BFF and SPSB along with other collaborative organizations will work together.

BFF Trustee noted Biologist Dr. Rezaur Rahman, Professor of the University of California Berkeley Dr. Saif Salauddin, Program Manager of National Science Foundation Fahmida Nilufar Chowdhury, UIU Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Rezwan Khan, Professor of Theoretical Physics at Dhaka University Dr. Arshad Momen, Editor of Biggan Chinta Mr. Abdul Kaium, Executive Director of BFF Mr. Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury and General Secretary of SPSB Professor Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammadi attended the closing ceremony.

The 5th Jagadish Chandra Bose Camp will be held with selected students. Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB) has been organizing Children Science Congress every year to promote science interest among students and to encourage the participation of Bangladeshi students at international science-based events like Google Science Fair, Science Olympiads etc.
